Dera: Music from Leaves & Feathers
Dera is an instrument devised by the Dangi people. Teak leaves are tied around the neck of clay matki (pot) and the matki is placed in a basket. A long peacock feather is then tied to the teak leaves, and music is created by rubbing the feather.
The Dangi women play the Dera while singing ballads about folklore.
